Hey, Friends!
Guess what? This is the year that I FINALLY decided to get with reality about my knitting and crochet project plans. A year can seem like a long time, but in knitting-time, it’s really really NOT.
I finally have a system that took a bit of work to set up and populate, but is honestly bringing me so much JOY that I have no words. (well, except for the words I just typed…this could go round in circles, yes?)
[If you’re here for the spreadsheet sample – scroll down!]
Whether you want a plan, need a plan, or think the whole thing is batsh#t crazy, this video (my first of 2026 – whoop whoop!) explains the hazards of planning and some gentle (and not to gentle) suggestions for FINDING YOUR OWN JOY.
Which may very well mean, no planning at all. In which case, YOU’RE the one who’s laughing, right?
I promised you a sample planning spreadsheet/worksheet and here it is:
And here’s what it looks like:

What kind of planner (or not) are you?
Do you have an awesome system people need to know about?
I’ll keep you posted at the end of each quarter and let you know how well I did (or didn’t) stick to my plan. (I may have been a smidge overambitious…)
Knit well and find your joy!

Knicole, thank you for presenting this to us, your viewers!
I did a quick survey of my WIP’s and the items in my Queue. While you had many 12’s and 11’s on your list, mine struggled to have 8’s! I think I need to ditch knitting and take up something suitable for a 74-yo, like marathon running or mountain climbing.
Actually, I had high numbers for socks, and we can always use socks.
Ha ha! An 8 is a decent score, in my books, as long as that excitement score is at least a 1!
It’s a great spreadsheet! Do you have a way to share it as an Excel file (or a tip on how to easily convert it)? Thank you so much for all your wonderful tips. I found your channel last year and have been really enjoying it.
Nancy
I figured out how to copy it in and then edited it. I added a few things to help me, such as craft, as I do multiple things. Thank you again!

Hi Nicole , I spent some time with you on our recent knitting and crocheting cruise with my sister Tess .
I dont have your last name so i cant pm you and I have a quick question for you.
would you mind sending me a pm so we can correspond. Ta lovely Julie Willims (no A in it)
Playing catchup..or as they say “Binge watching”..so enjoy all your content, just figured out you have a website..duh..Covid brain fog, plus I’m older than dirt, well not ALLLLL dirt, but some dirt..(74 shh don’t tell anybody) you remind me of my homeEc teacher, whom I dearly loved. Plus my tailoring teacher, so loved also…love learning from you..I really crochet more than I knit, also sew and do bead work, love reading, (but audio books are now my jam, to relax at night in bed), so I knit or crochet at the same time, as tutorial watching. Technology is wonderful. Oxox Sylvia Maxwell
So many of your videos give me tools that change how I knit or how approach my knitting. In this post it isn’t the spreadsheet that changed how I think about projects but the concept of when a project will be worn and how long it takes to knit said project. The lightweight sweater on my needles should be done in time for warming weather and my enthusiasm for wearing it keeps me from drifting over to a project that will be wore 9 months from now in the holiday season. A baby sweater, is an easy carry along project rather than the beautiful socks that won’t be needed until the next cold season.
Oddly my projects feel less pressured.
Thank you for the insights.
